š„ Hot take: iTerm is still my preferred terminal application
And now, 3 months after Ghostty’s release, I’m still using iTerm, because iTerm has so many more “quality of life features” that I can’t live without.
Here are some of the most important features:
- Text triggers that highlight important text, e.g., in log files
- Background badges that can provide context to the shell
- Tabs at the bottom of the window (Must have)
- Environment variables like
$ITERM_SESSION_ID
that indicate which window and tab a particular shell lives in, once again providing context to the shell
and iTerm is fast enough
